Native and Posh brides know that there’s more to your special day than just looking good and dancing with friends. Whenever there’s a chance that our wedding can also do good, we’re on it! About 1 in 8 women will develop cancer in her lifetime, but there’s something that we can do to help. Not only can you raise awareness, but you can be a real do gooder by using your wedding to help raise money for organizations that support cancer research and treatment. Here’s how!
1. Buy or donate your dress through the Brides Against Breast Cancer project.
Brides Against Breast Cancer is part of the Health Support Network and offers free information, programs and services to cancer patients, caregivers and family members, while connecting them with others who are undergoing a similar experience. They host 150 bridal shows a year to raise money for their efforts and you can take part by either buying your gown from them or donating your dress, for sale.
2. Start off your bachelorette party at the races.
You can grab your fiance, girlfriends or family and wal/ run in one of the American Cancer Society’s Strides Against Breast Cancer events. By participating, you can get fit for the special day, spend quality time with those who love and do something great to help fund groundbreaking cancer research. It’s not too late to sign up for the countless events taking place, around the country.
3. Tis better to give than to receive.
Instead of giving out wedding favors, donate to a great organization like the Susan G. Komen Cancer Foundation, on your guest’s behalf. Donate $3 to $10, per guest and leave each guest a card, letting them know of the donation. You can also request that guests donate on your behalf, in lieu of wedding gifts. It’s easy to set up a donation page here.
4. Buy bridesmaids gifts that give back, through the American Cancer Society’s Hope Shop.
I’m especially a fan of the American Cancer Society’s I AM STRONG yoga outfits and journals, but there are hundreds of totes, watches and more that you can buy through their site. With 100% of the proceeds going to fund cancer research and treatment, these great gifts will make your girls feel as wonderful as they’ll look.
